My silly Oliver is my "wild thing" as he loves to play peek-a-boo with one of our plants. I had to capture this in a layout.

I just love the Cosmo Cricket papers, chipboard, and bling! I then Glimmer Misted the background with my beloved Tattered Angels paints. Pink Paislee and American Crafts created my title. Had to include a couple peacock feathers too!

Not to be left out, I had to scrap Oliver as well. He was quite helpful in posing for the picture.

Hurricane Irene ~ Fundraising for Jamaica, Vermont devastation...

Hurricane Irene -

I am taking orders NOW for any sort of creative endeavor you can imagine or I can create.

Jamaica, Vermont, my home town and where my Mother lives as well as so many family and friends, loved ones... They've been devastated by Hurricane Irene.

Will be sending all proceeds to the Jamaica, VT Fire and Rescue efforts and the Jamaica/Wardsboro, VT Food Bank.

They have been ripped apart by the hurricane up there and this is all that I can think of to help.

Please support this as best as you can. Will be taking free will donations for items plus shipping.

Summer Beauty

I was challenged to create a layout this week. There were a few stipulations..
NO cardstock.
Fabric.
and Ephemera.

Ok...I can do this!

I used Basic Grey, Crate Paper, and Graphic 45 for my papers. My flowers were created with Basic Grey and Ranger Crackle Accents. The tattered rose and trim are from crepe-back satin (the same I used for the flower I made on my dress!) There's an American Crafts Rosette in there as well. Title is a Studio Calico font. All the buttons are vintage and from my Nan and Nanna's sewing cabinet I inherited. Tickets are recycled from a raffle I went to!

This was a fun challenge to be a part of! Can't wait for another challenge to crop up!

To Love a Cat

Elizabeth LOVES her cat. She reminds me of myself when I was her age. Totally in love with my Softy and he was happy enough..or was that dumb enough..to put up with my antics. Cleo, Elizabeth's cat, is much more intelligent that my Softy was. She's quick, cunning, but a devoted Mommy Cat to her kitten, Elizabeth.

Doesn't Cleo look "thrilled" to have her picture taken! :)

I'm a CSI (certified scrapbook instructor) at my local, Brookfield, CT, Michael's Arts and Crafts store. I love my "job" and we are introducing a new series of Paper-Ed classes right now! They are GREAT!

My first Paper-ed class is called "Texture WOW!" and will be on Wednesday, July 6th from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Brookfield, CT Michael's. Here's the class example that I created! I love it! :)

There are eight different techniques in this one project. Such FUN!

I've been away from this blog for a bit as things in life have been a bit overwhelming. I had to have my gallbladder out a few weeks ago and that really has zapped my energy. With the energy level down, my creativity took a nosedive. I'm feeling better now, but man oh man it's been a long few weeks without creating much of anything!

I have finally completed this layout and thought that I would share it with you to show that I am indeed still alive. I used the Sweet Peach Crop Shop's Juicy Kit for most of it. Other bits and pieces are from my collection of goodies.

So I hope to be back in the swing of things here and get some more work out to you all!

How to Dye White Ribbons with Mists

How to Dye White Ribbons with Mists

Have you ever wanted to have a special ribbon in that custom color that just works for your project? Well, look no further and let's see how we can custom dye them with the popular papercrafting mists, some ziploc baggies, and sunshine.

First gather together the colors of the Mists that you are looking to dye your ribbons. I used a large collection of Glimmer Mists and Shimmerz spray mists.

Place the lengths of ribbons individually in each ziploc baggie.

The ribbons that I am dyeing for my project are all from May Arts:

Satin Pleats in white: 379-58-01

Satin Pleats in White: 379-15-01

lace: 390-34-09

grosgrain ricrac in white: 330-01

Faux Linen: 368-15-01

crinkled ribbon: EA01

silky crushed: UK01

faux suede leaves XL09

leaves BY66

You can see what I started with a fresh, clean white slate of ribbons for my project.

Once the ribbons have been divided into their bags, the fun begins!

Spray the mist on the ribbon in the bag here and there. Scrunch the bag with your hand once and awhile to blend in the color. You can add more than one Mist color for added shimmer, shine, and depth of color.

When done misting and scrunching all of your ribbons, set to dry in the sunlight. The length of time in drying them will vary depending on the material of the ribbons and also on how much dye was used. It would be best to leave the baggies open partially so air can get in there and help facilitate the drying process.

Once dry, you will have a fun collection of custom colored ribbons!

Here are mine!

I was so inspired by the colors I created with the ribbons. I went and made this floral bib necklace to celebrate the arrival of Spring!

I did add another fun May Arts ribbon to my necklace:

It has added that extra luxurious touch and feel to things.

A labor of love...

I shared the following altered item on the JBS Message board a bit ago during their online crop and am now sharing it here. This has been a labor of love for me as it is an Alice in Wonderland inspired piece as well as paying homage to my Nan and Nanna.

All of the vintage items were my Nan and Nanna's. I found them in the vintage sewing cabinet that I inherited from my Nanna. A.I.W. has been a favorite of mine ever since it was read to me by my Nan. Putting the two together was a natural fit for me and this was what came of it all.

Next week, on the 28th, would have been my Nanna's 91st Birthday. Miss you!

My Snuggle Kitty!

I have been quite busy this month already. I've been making cards like a mad woman and also creating layouts and altered fun things. Here is a layout that I did of our Snuggle Kitty, Cleo. She loves to burrow under the blankets and curl up next to Elizabeth in bed. We swear that Elizabeth is the kitten she never had! :)

I used a Sweet Peach Crop Shop kit for the Layout. It features Glitz "Scarlett" papers. I LOVE how well they worked for this LO and for Cleo.

Embracing Change...

A bit ago I showed you all a work in progress. It is my One Little Word for 2011. That word is "change" as I feel like my life is in flux and ever changing at this time in my life. It's all good change thus far and I'm embracing it.

So Here is where my "change" altered art piece is right now. I've stopped tinkering with it and committed to the placement of everything as of now. I'm liking it!

Recent work..

It's not the best picture, but I wanted to share this recent Layout. I used the Sweet Peach Crop Shop's January kit along with some Core'dinations cardstock to create this. I had so much fun playing with the textures and colors!

This mini-album is from the Virginia Tillery class over at Noel Mignon. V. had us create a life album in class that is something to create in daily. The pictures below show a few examples of this concept. It's like a living journal of life.

A recipe I made! :)

Crock Pot Chicken Cacciatore - (yes I know I can not spell that.)

2# Chicken breasts
3 large rainbow peppers, chunked up
4 small onions, chunked up
2 large (28oz?) cans diced tomatoes
2 T minced garlic
1 T Italian seasoning
2 T grated parm
dash of salt and pepper

Put chicken on bottom of crockpot.
Add remaining ingredients and gently stir.
Cook for 6+ hrs on low or 3-4 on high.

Serve over your favorite cooked pasta!

An Index Card Organizer

With the New Year here, I am trying to organize my life (and more importantly Scrap and Art supplies) to the best of my ability. I came up with a fairly simple system of writing down the items that I have on 3" x 5" Index Cards. This has been great, however I needed something to contain them. A box would be nice, but a bit cumbersome to bring around with me when shopping so I thought..Why not a mini-album?!

This Mini-album was created with my index cards in mind. The covers measure 3 1/2" x 5 1/4" and it is bound with two binder rings. I was going to use my Bind-It-All, but thought it might be nice to rearrange the cards, add and subtract as need be, and to just have some flexibility with it.

Getting a little Misty and Painty!

I've been playing with my January kit from Sweet Peach Crop Shop! First I got my Crackle paint on for my cat, Oliver's, layout.

Then I got all Misty with some Maya Mist for my husband's layout. Elizabeth helped me with this one and we had a blast!

On my workspace right now... I Spy..

Right now I am working on my word of the year for 2011. I'm not fully invested in the whole Ali Edwards thingy-dingy, but the word "change" has been resonating with me for some time now.

So let's play I Spy...
I Spy with my little eye... my top three favorite adhesives. Beacon's Fabri-Tac, Beacon's Zip Dry, and my P!nk ATG.
I also spy Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type in Black, my Ranger Non-stick craft Sheet, Basic Grey paper, flowers, and a MS punch!
There are an oodle of goodies in my P!nk tool box as well.

Layouts with the Fabulous January Kit from Scraptacular!

This month at Scraptacular, the kit was of a Wintery theme. I had a small panic as I did not have any that fit that. After a moment I thought outside the box and created some Anytime layouts.

A Blooming Heart flower!

Would you like to create a Blooming Heart flower that is super easy?

Yes? Great!

We'll need some quick drying liquid adhesive like Zip Dry, a covered brad, a rough cut circle, and a bunch of punched out hearts (Mine are about 1 inch in size.)

Run a bead of glue around the edge of the rough cut circle.
Lay the hearts on the glue and over lap them slightly.

Repeat the circles of hearts while working yourself down to the center of the flower.

Add the covered brad to the center of the flower and there you have it!

Happy New Year!

It is 1*1*11 and I can feel change in the air. It is stirring and brewing and feels so good! Something tells me that this New Year will be a good one for me, my family, and friends. I'm not thinking anything drastic or crazy here, just something is changing for the better. I know it and can feel it!

This New Year also marks something new and different that you will find on my blog. Today is the start of this! I am starting a Sketch section!

I've been asked several times if I would ever share sketches. Yes, I am now going to! How often, We'll see, but I have several drawn up already and am scanning them as I go.

As you can see, it is hand drawn. I could Photoshop it, but frankly I do not want to. I LOVE hand drawn items and feel that I am better at expressing myself this way.

So enjoy the New Year, this Sketch, and remember to embrace CHANGE!

Guest Star for Jenni Bowlin Studios!!

Hello!

Just wanted to share with you the Guest Star design work that I did for Jenni Bowlin Studios this month. It is up on their blog as of last night and I am over the moon happy!

Here is a wreath that I made using a slew of antique buttons from my Nanna. The Flowers are created with the technique that Jenni Bowlin herself showed me at a trade show one time.

And a layout using the Red/Black line. Such pretty papers! They were perfect to use with a picture of Christian and Cleo!

The Gift of Flight ~ a Noel Mignon challenge

The layout below, The Gift of Flight, was a moving piece to create. It reflects upon me and where I have come from this past year and what gifts I have given myself to soar in life. Right now I am quite at peace with myself and know that this has been a long time coming. Being able to spread my wings has been the best gift I have been able to give myself. There are blessings to be had each day, the creative muse to tinker with, love, hopes, dreams, all sorts of magical gifts in me of all people! That may sound a bit hokey to some and I know that a year ago I would have laughed at saying such a thing, but now I know.

I have The Gift of Flight.

It would behoove me to mention that I was so inspired to create this layout in response to a Challenge, called The Gift, on the Noel Mignon Challenge Blog. Noel is generously gifting TWO of these kits to the winner of the Challenge. The idea is to at least gift one to someone else. Isn't that the best idea??

So think about it... Think about the word "Gift" and see where it takes you. Perhaps I have inspired you to enter Noel's Challenge..

Gratitude is something that I have been thinking of lately. Not just because of the holiday season that is rearing, but rather because of life as I know it has been evolving. You see, change is in the air with me and I'm liking it! I've been rethinking life's journey and have been making steps to improve my quality of life. Of course such things must be documented beyond this blog post and if you have guessed correctly, yes, I have created a mini-album and a layout.

Both so different, yet both very special to me.

5AM creativity...

So my daughter had me up extremely early this morning. She has a dry cough that wakes us all. Anyway, I couldn't get back to sleep so I went and made some coffee and decided to scrap...at 5:00AM!!! Eeek! That has got to be a record for me or something.

I sketched out my design, like always, and went to town. Somehow I turned out quite nice if I do say so myself.

An A-mAZE-ing Book!

I was inspired yesterday to create a Maze Book for the first time in forever. Maze books are created from one sheet of paper that is cut and folded down to a smaller size. I used a 12x24 inch sheet of K&co Handmade paper.

Here's what I created!

There are fifteen pockets and coordinating tags inside.

Bowlin Blooms for Scraptacular!

Hi there,

I created this "Bowlin Bloom" with some scraps from the Boardwalk kit that Beth coordinated for August at Scraptacular.

I call it a Bowlin Bloom as Jenni Bowlin herself showed me how to create the basics of these blooms a few years ago at a tradeshow. Talk about awe inspiring! Jenni is so sweet!

To create the base flower you need:
~ Three circles of paper. Can be whatever you desire, hand cut or punched, etc. About the same size would be great too!
~ Coordinating chalk ink(s)
~ A good strong quick drying liquid adhesive.
~ Stickles
~ Fibers of some fashion for the stamens. I used hemp.
~ Scissors
~ Edge Distress Tool

1- Distress the edges of the circles with Edge Distress Tool. Rough it up!
2- Snip circles on their radius. This would be from edge to center point. Think of a "Pac-Man" with his mouth closed! :)
3- Take each circle and pleat it along the center point. This will create a ruffled up jumble and sort of look like a fan. That's OK!
4- Pick out two and overlap cut ends to create a larger full circle. Glue in place and smoosh slightly.Chalk edges.
5- Using the third circle, over lap it's ends and adhere in place. Smoosh as necessary. Smooshing is fun! Chalk edges here too.
6- Glue smaller circle on the center of the larger circle.
7- Adhere desired fibers to the center flower with adhesive.
8- Cover adhesive in center of flower with Stickles.
9- Let dry and then enjoy!
10- :)

A gift of flowers..

My friend, Beth, had a birthday this past month. She's an avid card maker, scrapbooker, crafty sort of woman and is a blast to hang out with. I wanted to give her something to commemorate her "monumental" birthday. I thought long and hard while wracking my brain as to what to make her.

I ended up creating this grapevine and flower wreath for her.

She loved it! Yay!
